Project Description

Designing a humble stone cottage in the heart of the Bay of Fundy—what a diversion from big city projects. Here construction roars to a halt for lobster season, scallop dragging, and wild weather.

The millwork features a metallic paint finish on the 12-foot high kitchen cabinets as a contemporary counterpoint to the stone and Hackmatack, a local wood historically used for lobster traps. Our island mason puzzled together locally harvested basalt stone into a staircase over the wood-burning fireplace that made local tongues flap and gumboots tap.
