Temporary Drawings…

You never know who your dinner partner may be! While enjoying our ‘Moveable Feast’ this past August I started chatting with Jim. I quickly discovered we are both passionate about the arts, and the conversation was off and running! Jim showed me some images of his work, on his iphone – this type of impromptu art show on a hand held device generally gets my eyeballs permanently lodged in the back of my head… I caught a glimpse of his 1st image and my eyes returned front and centre! Jim creates large scale art – REALLY large scale. Temporary Drawings (on sand, earth and ice) intended to be swept away by waves and weather.

Have a look, get a load of the scale, appreciate the effort, and imagine the Zen in accomplishing this. No amount of wine prevented our continued conversation…

Berlin

A dramatic play of light, shade and shadow. A powerful experience.

In the centre of Berlin is Germany’s central Holocaust memorial site, a place for remembrance and commemoration of six million victims. The Memorial consists of the Field of Stelae designed by architect Peter Eisenman. The underground Information Centre succeeds in introducing you to some of the individuals, their families, and the postcards they sent on their way to the camps where they would be murdered.

Although, not a happy topic I was so moved by the Holocaust memorial while in Berlin that I feel compelled to share this, something we all should witness.
